April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) — a time to shine a light on the reality of sexual violence and empower our community to take action.
Sexual abuse, assault, and harassment impact individuals across all backgrounds. To prevent these acts before they occur, we must promote education about consent, healthy communication, and bystander intervention.
Nationwide, 81% of women and 43% of men have experienced sexual harassment or assault. Many victims—1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men—first experienced rape or attempted rape between the ages of 11 and 17. These statistics are staggering and underscore the importance of prevention and support services.
In Queen Anne’s County, For All Seasons’ Rape Crisis Center has seen a 50% increase in need for services over the past year, highlighting the urgent demand for resources and outreach.
The 2025 SAAM theme, “Sip Safe,” focuses on the dangers of alcohol- and drug-assisted sexual assault and encourages all Mid-Shore residents to stay informed, vigilant, and equipped to protect themselves and others.
We recognize and support the professionals working tirelessly to prevent violence and provide care for survivors. Every April—and every day—we stand with survivors and reaffirm our commitment to creating a community where respect and safety are the norm.
Join Queen Anne’s County in observing Sexual Assault Awareness Month this April. Together, we can build a safer future.
