Queen Anne’s County Invites Community Input on Parks, Recreation, and Open Space

Queen Anne’s County is inviting residents, park users, and community members to help shape the future of parks, recreation, and open space by participating in a countywide Parks & Recreation Survey.

Feedback from the survey will help guide the update of the County’s Land Preservation, Parks & Recreation Plan (LPPRP), a long-range planning document that we update every five years.

The LPPRP serves as the County’s roadmap for preserving farmland and natural resources, expanding recreational opportunities, and planning for parks, trails, and public access to land and water. The updated plan will be submitted to the Maryland Department of Planning and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Community input is a key component of the planning process and also provides a pathway for grant funding.

Residents are encouraged to share how they currently use county parks and open spaces, which amenities and programs matter most, and what priorities they would like reflected in future planning.

The deadline to participate is March 1, 2026.

The Land Preservation, Parks & Recreation Plan is required for all Maryland counties to remain eligible for Program Open Space funding and other state and federal grants. The plan addresses three interconnected focus areas: parks and recreation facilities and programs; natural resource conservation and open space; and agricultural land preservation.

Queen Anne’s County last updated its LPPRP in 2022. That plan documented more than 8,000 acres of parks and open space, identified growing demand for trails, water access, and community recreation spaces, and emphasized maintaining existing facilities while expanding opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities.

“The LPPRP is an important tool for ensuring our parks and open spaces continue to meet the needs of our residents,” said County Commissioner Jim Moran. “Community participation helps ensure this plan reflects how people use these spaces today and how they want to use them in the future.”

Survey results will be incorporated into the draft LPPRP, which will be released for public review and comment prior to final submission to the state.
